CEEG
Adapts to frequent traction load fluctuations, ensuring uninterrupted power supply for urban rail and high-speed rail

Rail transit industry transformer solutions

Rail transit operates at a dense pace with significant load fluctuations, requiring power supply systems to remain stable and reliable under frequent start-stops, overload impacts, and tight maintenance windows. With deep expertise in rail transit power supply, CEEG provides a full range of transformer solutions for urban metro, high-speed rail, and other applications.

Rail transit industry challenges

  • Rail transit sites are distributed along the route, grid voltage fluctuates noticeably in remote sections, and traction loads swing violently as trains start and stop. Power supply equipment must deliver a stable voltage continuously under these unstable input conditions.
  • Once a line enters service, the maintenance windows left for equipment are extremely limited, and any equipment requiring frequent de-energized maintenance directly disrupts operations. This places very high demands on maintenance-free capability and maintenance accessibility.
  • Traction loads start and stop frequently and impose severe overload impacts, leaving transformers running long-term under high load and strong shock. This is a severe test of overload capability, short-circuit withstand capability, and long-term stability.
  • A fault in the power supply system often halts a section or even a wide area, with broad impact and costly recovery. At the same time, traction power supply consumes enormous amounts of energy, making energy conservation and consumption reduction an ongoing cost challenge for operators.

Core technology of traction transformers

For the frequent start-stops and close-in short circuits of high-speed rail, we optimize the winding structure with breakthrough temperature field simulation analysis technology. Paired with a multi-zone hybrid heat-resistant insulation design, this gives the transformer a 24-hour continuous 30% overload capability. Air cooling provisions are also reserved, allowing overload performance to be raised even further.

Power supply reliability begins with the purity of the insulation. By using electromagnetic field simulation to effectively avoid field strength distortion, together with a fully enclosed assembly process and dust control throughout, we achieve measured partial discharge below 40pC, far exceeding national standard requirements and effectively extending equipment service life.

To withstand the short-circuit impacts created by traction loads, we reinforce the active part on the basis of our core Three-Tight process: tight winding, tight fitting, and tight pressing. The product is certified through national-level sudden short-circuit testing and takes the frequent close-in short circuits of high-speed rail in stride.

From design and manufacturing to testing, every stage is validated repeatedly against the operating realities of rail transit, so that equipment remains stable through long-cycle, high-intensity service, reducing outage risk and whole-lifecycle O&M investment.
